Learning that clicks.

Homework still going after dinner? Nexulern is a smart learning platform for Grades 4 – 12. Its tutor, Astrid, doesn’t hand over the answer. She asks the question that helps it click.

Example chat between a learner and Astrid. The learner asks: Is three quarters bigger than two thirds? Astrid replies: Good question! What happens if you give both fractions the same denominator? The learner says: Twelfths. So nine twelfths and eight twelfths. Astrid asks: Nice! So which one is bigger? Your turn: choose an answer with the buttons below.

Meet Astrid

She asks before she tells

Astrid is an AI tutor who guides with questions and hints, and lets your child try each step instead of handing over the answer.

She helps with other school subjects too, not only the ones with ready-made lessons.

The thinking stays theirs. So does the click.

  • Chat, or talk it through

Type a question and watch Astrid’s reply appear as she writes it. Or switch to voice and talk it through out loud, like a call with a tutor.

    Voice mode

Astrid: Okay, so what would you try first?

Learner: I’m stuck on number 4.

Astrid: Let’s look at it together. What is the question asking you to find?

  • Show her your working

Snap a photo of handwritten working. Astrid reads it, shows where it went wrong and asks what to try next.

    Show Astrid your working

Astrid: Look at line 2. What happens to the 6 when it moves across?

  • Scratchpad

Work it out by hand on a drawing pad next to Astrid, then show her.

    Scratchpad

No marks here, just working it out.

  • Study tools in the chat

Astrid builds quick checks, flip cards, step-by-step workings and graphs with sliders to explore “what if”.

Astrid remembers what your child finds hard and picks up from there. Your child can see this list, and clear it.

    What Astrid remembers

    • Comparing fractions with different denominators
    • Moving terms across the equals sign
    • Getting started on long word problems

  • Turn notes into study material

Food chains

Grade 5, Natural Sciences and Technology

A producer starts every food chain: a plant that makes its own food using energy from the sun. Animals can’t make their own food, so they are consumers. They eat plants or other animals. In the chain grass, then grasshopper, then bird, the arrows show where the energy goes.

Good questions

  • No, Nexulern isn’t a school. It’s a smart learning platform for learning at home, for Grades 4 – 12.

It brings four things together: Astrid, the AI tutor built into Nexulern; 9000+ ready-made lessons; our own video lessons; and 1:1 tutoring with real tutors.

  • From Grade 4 all the way to matric (Grade 12). The ready-made lessons are built around CAPS and IEB.

  • No. Astrid teaches by asking, not telling: she gives questions and hints, and your child takes each step.

If your child shows her a photo of their working, she points out where it went wrong and asks what they could try next. The thinking stays theirs.

  • No. Astrid isn’t a general chatbot. She’s a tutor built for learning, who asks before she tells. And she does a lot more than chat:

    • Reads a photo of your working
    • Remembers what you find tricky
    • Sketches graphs you can play with
    • Quizzes you with quick checks
    • Talks it through in voice mode
    • Shows step-by-step workings
    • Makes flip cards
    • Turns your notes into study material
    • Works it out with you on a scratchpad
    • Writes proper maths
    • Chats in Afrikaans too
  • Astrid is designed to be safe for children. She’s a tutor made for schoolwork, not a general chatbot, and she has safeguards built in.

No tool can promise to be perfect, so we still encourage you to stay involved: you can log in to your child’s portal to see their learning. If anything ever worries you, email us at hello@nexulern.com.

  • Yes. You can log in to your child’s portal to see their learning, including their progress and quiz results.
